Student Equipment and Computer Skills Required Students on this course require computer access for learning purposes and to complete course assessments. As such, students must have beginner/intermediate computer skills in programmes such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook, and know how to use the internet to access information. Standard intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 is desirable. Additionally, students are encouraged to develop basic skills for an efficient study environment, including the ability to install, update and maintain internet browsers and software (e.g., security updates), connect laptops and mobile devices to wireless networks (e.g., campus, library), use a webcam and headset/microphone and utilise cloud storage (e.g., OneDrive). Students MUST have the following equipment prior to enrolling with Rhodes Business School Hardware Requirements: • Desktop or Laptop Specifications: o Processor: 2.5–2.9 GHz o Memory: 8 GB o Display Card: 1 GB GPU o Disk Space: 100 GB o Operating System: o Microsoft® Windows® 8.1 or Windows 10 version 1809 or above o Apple® macOS® Monterey v12, Big Sur v11, or Catalina v10.15 • Additional Hardware: o Webcam: Built-in or USB webcam o Audio: Suitable input and output for online classes o Headset: For clear audio communication Software Requirements: • Web Browser: Microsoft Edge, Firefox, Google Chrome, or Safari • Microsoft Office 365: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams • MS Teams: Downloadable for free • CAD Software: Access to the College’s CAD system (if applicable) • Spatial Data Management Software: Arcgis As required • ArcGIS: o Processor: Minimum 2 cores, recommended 4+ cores o Memory: Minimum 8 GB, recommended 16 GB o Display Card: Minimum 1 GB GPU, recommended 4 GB GPU o Disk Space: Minimum 32 GB, recommended 64 GB or more o Operating System: Windows 10 or 11 (64-bit) with the latest updates Internet Requirements: • Reliable Internet Connection: Essential for using software like AutoCAD, OneNote, and Bluebeam for comment review processes. Peter Ng is a highly qualified Civil Construction Trainer and Chartered Engineer with over 18 years of experience in geotechnical engineering, tunnelling, and large-scale infrastructure projects across Australia and Hong Kong.
With a strong background in project design, excavation, tunnelling, and slope maintenance, Peter has contributed to major projects such as the WestConnex Stage Three B and Western Harbour Tunnel in Sydney, as well as the West Gate Tunnel Project in Melbourne. His work with leading organisations including John Holland and Meinhardt (C&S) Limited reflects his commitment to engineering excellence and innovation.
Peter holds a Master of Construction Law from the University of Melbourne, a Master of Science in Applied Geoscience, and a Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Earth Sciences from the University of Hong Kong. He is also a qualified VET educator with a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment and a Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety.
